Befriending People in your Industry *My Life*

Before I moved away from Charleston, I made a “bucket list” of things I wanted to do before I moved back to Orlando. One of the biggest adventures I wanted to have was to go to Cypress Gardens in Moncks Corner, South Carolina. I had always heard that it was one of the most scenic places to visit in the South, and now I understand why! Man, was it beautiful. And if it looks familiar to you, it’s because several movies have been filmed here, including parts of The Notebook and The Patriot.

My friend Caroline and I deemed this day “CarolineLucyFunDay” because it was one of the last times we hung out before I moved away. It was important to the two of us to have a little time to just hang out, talk photography, and more importantly talk life. I am ALL about taking the time to relax and enjoy life with the people you love. My relationships are what make me tick! More specifically, I think it’s great to befriend people within your industry; in my case, creatives hanging out with other creatives. Caroline and I are constantly bouncing ideas off of each other; we text back and forth about which picture to post on our blog, how to fix a problem on our sites, how to get our work published, etc. We also love chatting about how we can use our talents to help others. I can’t tell you how valuable that is! Another benefit to being friends with other creatives is that it provides me with support; we go through the same problems with our business, so I can ask them about how they made it through a struggle. I find this through Pursuit 31, a group of  Christian women creatives. These women are always jumping at the opportunity to help others with their business and provide any type of advice they can. Lastly, it is so fun to get inspired with the people within your industry. Go check out a new exhibit together, try something new, or even go in on a project together! For example, I love talking to my friend Brooke about her new fashion and style blog and getting inspired by her creativity. The benefits you will reap from not “going it alone” in the business world are endless.

I hope you enjoy these pictures of our day at Cypress Gardens! We even ended it with a mini portrait session of Caroline. As a photographer, it’s good to get on the other side of the camera sometimes (another reason why I love to do lifestyle portraits of other creatives). Caroline let me practice some new techniques and equipment! By the way, make sure to check out her amazing photography business, CarolineRo, here.
